can i use an 01 sport trac tranny in an 02 explorer

Hoping to find a serious answer seeing as thought Ford will not give me one.

I have a 01 ST 4.0 v6 and an 02 Ex 4.6 v8...looking to swap engine and tranny from the ST to the Ex wiring and all. Can this be done, and if so, what are the major differences I should be aware of, and if not, Why?

PLEASE someone help me...really trying to get my Ex back on the road.

You didn't say if they were 4X4? Should work as long as you swap the wiring and computer.

Thanks PopRichie77, I've been getting the run around from dealers, salvage yards and the like, trying to get me to just buy a new engine. ...and they are both 4x2

didn't the 02 ex's with the 4.6 have a six speed or was that the 4th gen that got six's.

i know the trac has the 5r55e

I missed that the 02 was a 4.6, but it should work as long as you change everything, engine trans, wiring and computer. Check the location of the trans in both so that you don't have drive shaft length problems.
