Ok, I just got my Mac exhaust for my 98 5.0 V8, and it looks totaly wrong, it looks like it should fit I guess on a V6, cause on my explorer the two pipes going into the muffler are seperated, like one is a slip on, and one it a bolt on, but the mac muffler I got has like a plate with the two pipes in it, and three bolt holes, does anyone know if thats for a V6, cause I KNOW its not for mine..this is I think what mine should look like

but thats for a 99-2001, and I got a 98..and the dude at MAC pissed me off, cause hes like that should be the one for your exlporer, and IM like NO its not, he then goes to tell me well did you try to put it on, and Im like I layed under there and looked and its not it, and then he goes well did you try to put it on, I go umm no, cause if its the WRONG one, witch it is, I cant drive around with no exhaust of the truck..so can some one help PLEASE!!!!

Mac has this exhaust system (#TH5072)cataloged as fitting 96-01, that is incorrect. There system will only fit 99-01. We tried to tell them. We changed out catalog. The one I have in stock has the seperate pipes. Let me know if you have any questions. I have delt with Mac quite a bit recently.

well the part that I orderd was TK5068, and its not it..go to www.proficientperformance.com and check out the mac section..do you know what im talking about thought, with the plate thing with the two pipe, and the one in the link i sent before??

Sounds like the one you got would have fit my '96 5.0. How much did you get it for shipped to your door?

so are you sayin section that in 96 they have like a plate where the cats bolt to the cat back part..not two seperate pipes, like I mean two pipesinto the muffler, but not conected by a plate? It was 258 and some change shipped to my door..

Yeah, one plate with three bolts right behind the cats. I'd be interested, but my new chassis has the '99 exhaust and my '96 MagnaFlow can't bolt up.

thats why it wont fit my 98..I dont have the plate..got the two pipes..

i dont see why it shouldnt fit ur v8. my 98 has the three bolts. in fact when i ordered my gibson cat back i climbed under there to make sure

this has got me thinking..I wonder if my 98 was a late in the year production? So alot of the things were upgraded to a 99?? Like the muffler??

mine was one of the first 98s sold in new york state

ill check my production date sometime...

Give me a call if you need help with this exhaust. The one I have has two seperate pipes in front of the muffler, not the welded flange. I could send you pics.

hey John, I tryed calling you but you never at your desk, so do you think that I will need to get the 99 and up for my 98, cause it doesnt have the welded flange, its got the two seperate pipes, and my explorer was made in 9-98, so maybe its got the 99 exhaust on it or something?? So what should I say to mac when I call them??

You need the TK5072. A production date of 9/98 would make that vehicle a 1999 (in most cases).

wannabxp8,

what was the outcome of your exhaust dilema if you don't mind me asking?

I send back the first system that they sent me, and I got the correct one, and I got it all put on, I like it, but I dont love it, its not loud enough for me, I mean it sounds really good, and deep, but not as loud as I would like. But all in all its a good system..

could you compare the sound to a gibson or something like that? sorry for the dumb questions i'm just trying not to waste my money on something i don't want. i not looking for a LOUD exhaust, just something to give my truck a nice rumble v8 sound.

oh i just realized!! the pictures that are in the link at the top of this forum are of the exhaust that look exactly like what i have underneath my truck (as far as the connections/fittings are concerend) is that the weld on or the slip on?

thanks!

its all slip on, and bolt on, its not to hard to put it on..
