Can you adjust the idle on a 93 X?

Good ideas Fouro! I'll check it out. Anime, it could still be the engine just isn't developing the tourque it needs on the low end even though it seems ok when revving from neutral. I just can't see how the tranny can cause this. Manual for all you peeps following this. Lets say the slave over engages. Should lock right in. If it under engages I should get spin and a smoother take off. Unless it was doing some pulse thing, even then I don't quite see how it could cause a shuddering, bogging take off sometimes. I'm going to clean the IAT sensor tommorow also. New plug wires, new fuel filter(can't hurt). Going to bleed the slave sometime soon and go through the trouble shooting steps in the service manual. Probably end up with a new slave and throwout. If that doesn't fix it I'll probably just start replacing stuff. Go with Ford Plugs, IAC, MAF, IAT, O2 till I get it. Honestly replacing all those sensors is a good idea. The engine runs strong and has a lot of life in it. If anyone has other ideas toss em out!

Back with the OE Clutch master and slave cyl, my X would chirp tires if I let off on the clutch a little too quickly, usually caused by bumps or something.

Now with a new harder-to-push revised Ford master cyl and slave cylinders that keep needing replacement, it's more likely that the engine will bog down from accidental clutch action. Bad hydraulics keep the clutch just a hair away from being engaged making the usual modulation with the pedal increasingly more difficult to achieve.

The engine has more performance parts and is making more torque than ever, but the master/slave combo does a poor job of allowing a smooth power transfer to the tranny.

This is just my experience and your issue might not even be close, but it's the slave cylinders on these things that are responsible for a large number of driving issues.

Coil pack is a good suggestion too. I don't think you need to go to the throuble and expense of replacing all the sensors, though.

Awesome input Anime, I think you might be on to it. You don't think doing 02 sensors is a good idea? I'm just trying to figure out if I'd get better performance if I did. How about the MAF? Can these items be degraded but not generating CEL's?

Is the Ford Slave the best one to get or are they all equal? I know the Ford one costs a lot more.

Replacing O2 sensors is fine if you get a deal or something, but generally they don't require replacment unless your gas mileage tanks or there was some running issue (running lean, rich, leaking injector, engine fire, etc.) that destroyed the sensors and probably the converters. Performance doesn't increase unless there were sensor issues, but sometimes you'll get a slight mileage increase with new sensors. Similar results can sometimes be achieved by removing the old sensors and spray cleaning them with sensor-safe carb/intake cleaner.

Many X's are on the original sensors at well over 200,000 miles with no issues. Getting new ones on there is a lot easier when you have the Y-pipe off while dropping the tranny.

You can have a lot of things that will affect performance but won't generate a CEL since a sensor didn't go out of spec to throw a code. A dirty MAF won't give a CEL but will affect a lot of things. It can be a good idea to remove the air intake tube and the MAF housing to clean the screen and inside, and check the flexy parts of the plastic air intake tube for leaks, along with the standard MAF cleaning.

I'd suggest following a lot of the advice so far in this thread and checking easy things out (wires, fuel filter, coil pack) before just throwing big money at the problem and replacing good sensors hoping one of the things you replace will be the culprit.

I've done all the easy, more inexpensive stuff Anime. I just got a job yesterday and am starting today so I'm not sure when the tranny is getting pulled. Did plug wires and fuel filter yesterday. It seemed to lose some power but sound much smoother. I'll check for leaks on the air delivery system. We'll gitter whipped! Thanks guys!
