Hey there,

I did a coil spacer install on my Explorer and now it seems like the coils will kind of shift around a bit in the upper seats or something.
I had ball joint work done recently and the sway bar and bushings are recently replaced, so the noise can`t be that.

It is not an alarming noise or any thing, and only happens when I get off camber. it`s just like a "twang" noise that seems to emanate from the coils. It did not do this prior to the spacer install. I was careful to get them back to wherethey sat originally too.

Can a guy tighten these coils to the top seat, with some kind of fastener, or is this a no-no?

It happens, you can get some J-Clips to keep them from popping out. Mine has always made those noises.

So I guess if I go to the local auto parts place and ask for J-clips they will know what I`m talking about then?

-cuz they still swear they can`t get me that pipe stretcher:D

Thanks,

I guess you run without your sways connected then? I haven`t tried that yet, but might on my next trip. If I have J-clips tho`

I doubt they will know what J-clips are. Hell, they get confused enough when asking for stock replacement parts.

I can start making them for people if they are interested.

It will require drilling a hole in each coil bucket though.

Drop me a line and we can talk about it.

I was just thinking that I might be able to fab something up myself at work Cory, but thanks for the offer!

By the way, that project of yours had me on the edge of my seat. I wish I could see "it in the flesh" so to speak. Damn that would be fun to take for a burn.

Too bad you don`t live in Washington, I could zip down & park my truck in your yard and let you "accidentally" put some rock sliders on for me! ;)

clamps

Superlift makes the spring clamps you are looking for, saw ad in 4wheel parts cataloge for them.

Probably priced at $5.

-That sounds reasonable, and they would be good to add to your products line for sure. I just hate waiting for the mail ;)

I`m actually wondering about that noise now though. I hope it is not something else. I gotta get the tire off and do a thorough inspection, I guess. Maybe something else is loose?

I'll take a set. I have a 92 that I put the Rancho 2 1/2" lift kit on. It says the shocks are the droop limiter. They droop about 1" too much, even with the 3" body lift.

I am going to strap the frame, but I still want something to keep the coils in place. Sign me up.

Thanks

I thought about doing J-clips on mine but it limited travel. I'm a travel freak so I opted to modify the bucket to allow the coil to drop out of the bucket and return to the bucket. So now the only thing limiting my travel is the shocks getting maxed out. I'm happy with my travel plus i don't think the axle shafts can go any more without getting a bined in them. But heres a pic of my buckets.....

Cory, if you do make them, I'll take a set.

spring clamps

Cory,
I would also be interested in a set.

Coryl,

Make sure you design them for easy installation. I don't wantt o heve to pull the coils to drill holes.
