My mountaineer just rolled over 140,000 and I want to inspect the timing cassettes.

My repair book's pictures show the rail removed, but doesn't list it in the steps...

Thanks.

For my 02, I actually took off the left hand rail before I tried removing the left side valve cover so I'm not entirely sure about that side but I tried everything to lift the back of the right hand valve cover from the head and I just couldn't slide it out under the fuel rail on the right side far enough.

You'll see that the rear of the right valve cover has an extended 'lip' that reaches back under the fuel rail which creates the problem that you'll run into.

you can leave fuel rail on, and remove valve covers. My rear tensioner was stuck closed so my back chain was loose and ruined the engine 178000 miles,
Probally could have saved engine if I only knew more about the sohc problem.

edit: I mean awesome for the info, sucks your motor died!

Awesome! I found a few pics on here of valve covers off, but fuel rails on, so I wasn't sure if they had just put them back on or what.

Yeah, even if my cassettes are ok, I still plan on replacing the tensioners!

Thanks!
