As any one ever done this? I was thinking maybe just something stupid like that dent king thing

My tank use to hold 21 gal. now after many off road trips the shid plate has pushed up in and it is now around 17 to 18 gal. :(

I know I need more lift

Seeing how the tank is plastic, I would suspect it be easy to pull dents out of the gas tank. Its just a matter of getting something to pull the dents out. You could probably use a slide hammer but then you are putting a hole in your tank.. I think Permatex makes a gas tank repair kit but I'm not sure if it would work with our plastic tanks.. Anyone want to make their rig a guinea pig for this?

Here in michigan we have a few shops that use compressed air to reshape tanks, we use them on collision jobs where the tank has been damaged and the oem/nos is no longer available, check with a local body/resto shop I'm sure someone by sohould offer this service.

Good Luck

LOL! Sorry I couldn't resist when I saw who posted it.

What about a big suction cup to pull the dents out??

The tank is metal.

1st and 3rd Gen is Plastic

2nd gen is metal

;)

I could have swore mine was plastic.. Then again its been a while since I lowered mine to work on it.. The last one I worked on was from a 91, and I do remember it was plastic.. If it wasn't so damn cold outside I would go check it.

Why risk structural integrity by repairing a mishapen tank? How about sturdiness in subsequent impacts? (remember the Ford Pinto and Crown Victoria issues?)

I personally would get a bone yard tank, or if really worried, get a refurbished/remanufactired or new replacement. Definitely not worth taking a chance with self/passengers.
