Cant fill up fuel pump and engine light on with P0442 code

When I try and fill up my 2008 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4.0l, the pump keeps clicking off. It takes for ever to fill up.I first got the gas cap light to come on the display and then the engine light came on so I replaced the gas cap. The pump still clicks off and the gas cap light came back on. Today just the CK engine light came on with a code of P0442. Any ideas of what to check first.

Don't know about that code but if fuel flowing in is kicking the pump off at moderate flow. There is likely a blockage of baffle problem within the tank or connecting pipe. You should be able to remove the pipe end for inspection at some point.

I had a similar problem right after I had the fuel pump replaced. It didn't produce a code. It ended up being some kind of selonoid/thingamabob attached to the tank that needed to be replaced. Sorry. Its been 3 years and I can't remember what the part name was, but I hope it leads you in the right direction
