96' XLT AWD V8, Makes a loud metal on metal swishing noise that tuns to almost a squeek sometimes (speeds up and slows down directly with vehicle speed) coming somewhere from the rear. Here's the weird part turn the wheel left a little while driving and it goes away! Turn right or straighten back out and it comes back. Checked brakes, they're ok, checked for anything contacting driveshaft, nothing. I can't figure it out but am hoping it's not a diff issue. Any ideas?

After some searching through other threads sounds like a wheel bearing.

You may also want to let it cool off and check to make sure the O2s are tight. Couldn't hurt and it's free to do.

check that the heat shield for exhaust isnt hitting the driveshaft

I checked underneath, no sign of anthing contacting any of the driveshafts. Probably a wheel bearing.....Lame.

Found out what was making the noise and fixed it. The outer spring that pulls the ebrake shoes back in was rubbing against the heads of the lugs. The ebrake shoes where old and worn causing them to bow out far enough to make that damn squeeking noise. New shoes and springs took care of it.
