Bought a new Alternator to put in. I cannot get the factory one out. The 3 bolts are off and electrical connections are off, yet it's like frozen or stuck to whatever. Tried pulling, tried a smaller bar with leverage and cannot get it to budge, wtf? I've never seen nor had that problem with an alternator ever.

Did you remove the belt? Maybe it's just corrosion, hit it with a torch or spray some wd40 at the base. BFH might work as well

Yeah belts off. Been letting PB soak, doesn't even look corroded or that bad for a 150k miles

beach - Yes, the alternators are a TIGHT fit.

You won't be able to pull it out by hand.

Put a "lever" under the Alternator, and a work it CAREFULLY out from it's mounting points.

You might even have to put a small block of wood under the lever to get some more "ommph"

The block of wood will lessen any chance of damage to the "foundation" that you're levering off of.

I have a small gooseneck wrecking bar that I use for this - the end on the left side of the picture is what I utilize.

What do you mean by a tight fit? The alternator is sitting right on top. It can't be any easier.

On a '98, it's on top but in a "cradle" that provides a TIGHT fit.

The tightest part of the cradles fit at the bottom of the cradle, at the "pivot point"

I don't have any idea about the particular set-up on the OP's Ex, as there is no picture and vehicle profile - so I'm taking my best educated guess at what he's dealing with. :)

Do you mind posting a pic? I haven't seen an alternator cradle on any year x. My 4 cylinder ranger had a pivot point, and sort of a cradle. But the Alternator on that truck was also the belt tensioner

Its a 2000 5.0, finally got it off. PB helped, the right side was really stuck for some reason but there was no rust or really any corrosion, weird.

BTW anyone wants an alternator, I got a DB Electrical off Amazon for less then 100 shipped and reviews online were excellent for them across all makes I came across even when searching and other forums popped up. Way cheaper then Advance, and Autozone etc crap too.

They are cheaper because it doesn't come with a no-questions-asked-free-lifetime-replacement benefit. That said, Autozone far exceeds Advanced in the convenience of getting a warranty exchange. At Autozone, all I ever needed was my phone number. Almost every time, I have had to bring in a copy of the receipt to Advance.

Had 2 autozone alternators crap out, and an Advance Auto alternator crap out. Warranty meant nothing to me as it was annoying. So switched to other brands and no issues since. This truck though went 150k on the stock one before chirping/squeeking like crazy lol. Happened to be on Amazon and looked up what was available. Neighbors been through two Advance Auto alternators in the last year, the last one kicked the bucket about 3 weeks ago. Looked up stuff on DB and hardly a single bad review across all makes. As I'm installing it, my other neighbor was out as he just sold his Benz, said he put in an DB alternator as well about 5 years ago, a '94 SL600.

Never even heard of them till recently
