I am trying to remove the rear hubs on my wifes 2002 XLT and can't do it to save my life! I've been using the CD manual from Ford and following their directions but the stinking hub will NOT press out of the spindle. Is it possible that the bearing is so worn that it got hot enough to seize it together? I have been using some PB blaster and a rented hub puller but can't get either side to budge. The big hub nut had alot of rust on it and I noticed once I removed the nut that the splines where the hub and axle meet are a bluish color. Help!

if the metal has blued, then it's gotten very hot, I think the Ford shop manual mentions the use of a special tool and a 20 ton hydraulic press...

The front hubs are super easy to replace. The rear, however, the dealer is replacing mine as I type - very difficult to remove. :us:

I just had one of mine replaced by the shop. Shortly after that the other one failed as well. I am getting it done by the shop today. My dad is pretty handy with cars but this was something I did not want to ask him to do for me because of the special tools and difficulty involved.

I used the local tire shop to have this done. They did the first one for $400 and are doing the second for $300.

Do you have the knuckle off?

I replaced a rear wheel bearing on my 02 about a month ago. I took the knuckle off myself took it to my local dealer and had them press the hub and bearing out and install the new one. I bought the new bearing from them and they charged me an hours labor to press it in and out. The hardest part of the job was reinstalling the ebrake.
