I have enjoyed viewing many custom installs of some serious sound equipment lately. I thought I had it all, or at least what I need. I have seen on many installs, this capicitar looking tube, some chrome, some colored, some even lit up. What is it for? Do I need one? How do you tell if your system needs it or not?

caps

a cap acts as a storage unit for power so when some mean wicked bass is droping it doesnt strain your charging system, you only need a cap if your drawing a lot of current a good indicator of this is when your headlights dim at idle when your system is pumping.

HoDogs: did you get the issue with the guys installing your system straightened out? I remember you were having problems with the installer and was wondering if it was installed.

Yes, everything is straight now. They are on it. I have a worklog posted down below that when I go and check up on them, I take progress pictures of the job and post them for everyone to see. After looking in my vehicle with no seats, I quickly got on the hunt for new carpet. I purchased some dealer carpet, real OEM if you may, but it wasn't cheap. We will also lay some insulation down on the floor to help with road noise and such. The whole job better be complete by April 15th, I hope. So stay tuned, can't wait to see what the needles peg out at for sound quality issues after all is done. But this cap thing was something that I only saw, and to be honest with you, I thought they were just small bass modules or something, didn't really know they had a purpose to a system.

caps charge then when ur system needs the power discharges very quickly . It does this very quickly so inbetween bass notes it charges and when it hits it lets the power go. Personally I do not beleive in caps, only because I would rather spend the money on an upgraded battery or alternator. The only reason I have a cap on my system is cuz i got it free and I like the volt meter on it :-D
