My '01 X wouldnt start today when I was leaving for work. Still under warranty luckily though, so I had it towed to the Lincoln/Mercury dealer based on my experiences with them so far, and my horrible experiences with the local Ford dealer. I ended up being about 2 hours late for work, but my flight chiefs were understanding. But the best part is, I asked the service writer if she could get me a rental car, and she ended up giving me a loaner vehicle free of charge. Best part is, its a 2003 Lincoln Towncar! D@mn its nice! H*ll, I dont think I`m gonna turn it back in to get my X back! Wife thinks its a old mans car, but it puts my explorer to shame any day of the week. It is soooo nice inside.

Oh man...that's sweet!!!

Dealer called today, said the fuel injectors needed cleaning, and the throttle body intake needed cleaning as well, $200, they said the gunk knocked out I think it was the idle air solenoid? Still, even if I had taken it to the ford dealer, I would have paid for the cleaning plus a rental car, so its not so bad. I have noticed, that the engine get covered in a lot more dust than a car normally would up north. Probably just going to start changing the air cleaners more often. I dont want to get a k&n. I know they flow more air, I just hear people having a lot of problems with the oil getting on the MAF, and other parts causing problems. FWIW I trust this dealer.

I'm glad you're satisfied, it's good to have a good dealer.

However, you could have cleaned the TB yourself for free in about an hour, and the injectors might just have needed a flush which you could have done for about $5 in no time.

The IAC is a common problem on our trucks. Replacing it takes about 10 minutes, though you would have still needed to buy the part which is around $70.

Well, I gave up the towncar today :( I`m gonna miss that vehicle. The explorer is running really good right now, but I`m kind of spoiled after having the towncar for the last few days. They called me at work on Wednesday, about 445 and told me my car was ready for pickup, but I asked the lady if I could keep the loaner till Friday, as I couldnt get down there in time before they closed on Wed. I worked until 12. She told me no problem, and asked how I was enjoying the Lincoln. Now my only complaint is now, I`m debating about trading in the Explorer and buying a Mercury Marauder. Same size as the Towncar, just a little more power. I`d be getting it as a A plan. I`m going to test drive on next week, I didnt have time to today, so I just picked up some information on it. I`d definetely pass on the black and go for the red or the silver. Black is just too much work. Wife is making fun of me pretty bad. She says its a grandpas car. Now mind you I`m 25, shes a fresh 22. So were going back and forth right now on that part. She just cant understand why I like the Town Car, and the Marauder.

Oh, what I really liked about the towncar is the fit and finish, the legroom, headroom, the spaciousness, how quiet it is, and the smooth ride. The Merc is probably going to be a little louder, and a little stiffer ride. We`ll see how it compares. I really liked having the bench seat in the towncar with the flip down arm rest, we`ll see how the buckets in the mercury feel. The lincoln just felt like a big pillow. VERY comfortable.

I think he is in cohuts with Ford. He probably gets a % of the sales from replacement IAC. Why else would he have gotten rid of Splat. :D
To be honest, in my experience with Ford, it does seem like the IAC is a constant maintance issue. My neighbor has a 93 Aerostar and he's replaced the IAC well over 3 times since he bought it. Not to mention my 99 E-250 Work van has had similar problems.
