hey all!

I recently removed the upper Cat. heat shields on my 94 Explorer. I read somewhere that they can be fixed with 6" clamps attached to each other (total of 4...)

What I wanted to know is has anyone just left them off? The clanging was driving me nuts!

I would put them back on only because whoever put them there must have at least known something about heat transfer. :D

Well then it would have been a lot harder to remove them.

Mine fell off about 4 years ago. I never put them back on.

I didnt remove them, they removed themselves :p

Actually they were driving me crazy so I figured what they hey!!!

All of mine were starting to fall off a few weeks ago when I had the exhaust out. I decided to just pull them off completely. The one on the y-pipe (under the trans) was coming off, but I had my neighbor tig weld it back on since heat is the transmission's worst enemy. Much quieter with them all gone (and the trans heat shield rewelded)
