Just got my X back from the shop today after bringing it in with strange metalic sounds. The mechanic told me that it is the catalytic converter making this sound because the heat shield is loose and that i didnt need to replace the whole thing because of that. So now i want to fix the heat shield without welding skills. any suggestions? should i use clamps? i was also hoping someone could post a pic of where the catalytic converter is on a '94 XLT. Thanks. Help is greatly appreciated.:)

Happens a lot, people just remove the heat sheild, grind off the welds that remain, or get one of those massive steel bands they secure exhausts with and clamp it to stop the noise.
The cats are up front about below the front seats, just follow the exhaust from the engine and you will come across it before anything else, look for the heat sheilds.

thanks. ill try to get that fixed up today.:D doesn't sound like it should be too hard.
