I’m installing a CB radio and I can not figure out where I should attach the power to. I was thinking about putting it on the same circuit as the stereo and CD changer. Do you guys think I could just splice into the power cord to the CD changer? Or is that a bad idea? Sugestions?

I use a vhf which is simular except stronger frequency I hooked mine straight up to the battery just make sure you have a fuse betwen the battery and cb.Also make sure that you run your antenna cable far away from your ECM.

Yeah, I have the antenna wroughted all the way to the back.

As, for the power hook up, I also thought to run a wire from the battery to the CB, but then I thought that the first time I forget to turn it off, I'll be out a battery.

Anymore sugestions, anyone?

Thanks, Jeremi

I attached mine to the power point wiring. I also used a noise filter on the power leads to the CB.

Ok, I'm not that familiar with electrical stuff. Not sure what "power point" is, explain please.

As to noise filter, I don't know what that is either. Could you explain what they do and where to get them?

Thanks for your help,

Ok, well I decided just to test the CB and took a cord straight to the battery. Wasn't a permanent installation so to keep it simple I just hooked the neg to the neg on the battery instead of grounding it to the frame. The thing is, it didn’t turn on. I have the Uniden 520xl. The fuse isn’t blown, I checked that. Anybody know what’s up.

:(

Hi again , there's a few option's go to your fuse box and see if there's a place to plug in an auxilary component such as cb's , or you can use your cigerette lighter or power source if you have it , it's just like a lighter but designed for pluging in laptops or power converters , you'll have to get an adapter to splice on to your wires your local electronic store should be able to help you just explain what your doing and they should help you out.I hope I was some help to you, good luck.

Run it strait to the battery nice and simple, you will not flatten the battery unless transmitting they use stuff all power. You could leave it on all day and the car would still start.

What does the wiring harness for the CB look like? My Cobra CB had two red wires... One to connect to a constant battery source and the other to an accessory wire (translates into any wire that only gets 12v when the key is on). If this wire isn't powered the CB won't come on...

Caution: If you test you CB without the antenna being correctly hooked up the power output of the CB Finals could easily get blown resulting in a non-working unit.. This was spelled out in HUGE letters in the various CB manuals I have poked through...
