I'm trying to decide where the best place to mount a cd changer is. my explorer has the rear air/stereo controls console and I'd like to keep the rear stereo controls, thus I decided to get a RF Cd Changer. As for the mnumber of cd's, I dont really care. Anyway, if anyone mounted and aftermarket changer in theyre explorer, drop a line and tell me where and if you like the location. Thanks, Justin

my cd changer was installed with the system and it's in the center armrest in an upwards position. you could stick it in there. it's a 6 disc changer. you could also put it under your seat if it's slim enough, but don't put it under the rear seats if you ever fold them down. i had stuff under there once and was wondering why the damn thing wouldn't fold completely. another place could be in the trunk in the almost useless little cargo net place on the right. you could also get super creative and mount it on the roof before your sun shade. a friend of mine did that.

we each have a sony 10 disk rf changer mounted under the pass rear seat. doesn't allow the seat to fully flatten out when folded, but not enough to really bother me.

I have an Alpine 6-disc changer and it is located under the dash, in the middle, suspended by an Alpine bracket. It is a _great_ place to put the changer. It makes it easy to get to, and it's out of the way. I never hit it with my knee.

You might want to think about purchasing a cd changer which will simply plug into the OEM stereo. This way, you won't need a second controller/screen for the cd changer... This is, of course, if your stock radio has changer controls. I'm pretty sure crutchfield carries a couple. Again these plug into your factory radio and act as if you had a changer installed when you bought the X.

Since i wanted to keep the rear stereo controls i opted for the FM Modulated 6-disc changer from aiwa. So far it sounds good and it hasnt skipped a beat yet. I decided to mount it under the smaller rear seat and the changer is so small that it will allow the seat to fold down. The whole job took me 30 mins to complete with a little help from Single-DIN removal keys i got from Wal-Mart ($3.96)Heres some pics if youre intreseted.
