Just bought my wife a 1995 Explorer XLT ( I get the hand my down 91 EB), The factory stereo sounds real good, so I was thinking of adding a CD changer. I see where a add on changer uses a FM modulator to send the signal thru the reciever. My question is how well does it work? Is the sound quality OK. I see where crutchfield sells several types. I've ordered from them in the past and their stuff has always been top notch. Just needing a little input before I decide.

CD players with the FM modulator tend to cost a little more but you actually get poorer sound quality from them, it does not seem like a wise investment. The frequency response of your FM reciever is less than that of a cassette tape. This will negate any advantage in sound quality a CD would give you. It is rather complicated, but basically you will chop off all the highs and lows and it will sound kind of flat just like the radio does.

if you like good qwality tunes you will not
want a cd/changer unless it is wired to your
head unit or radio in your truck.you must, though, use the same brand names for your radio and your cd/changer and make sure the
radio is cd/changer compatable.try www.
crutchfield.com they will answer all your
questions you also need a special wire harness for your amp in your truck .
good luck!
