Hi! I have a 1996 XLT with the factory radio. As you probably know the CD player is in the center console. I just recently got the vehicle (my first car!) and the last people who owned it had drilled holes in the ashtray to mount a cell phone holder, this bothered me so I got and installed a new ashtray from a junkyard. Somehow after taking out and putting back in the cupholder/ashtray assembly and the "cubby holes" the cd player had stopped working. The radio just said "No DJ" when I pushed the cd button. I took the pieces back out, jiggled the wires a little and everything worked fine, but now everytime I go over a bump I get static and lose right side sound. Where are the actual plug ins for the changer? Are they in the center console? I know they're just loose but I don't know where they plug in.

The wire for the changer runs from the hash harness through the center console, and through a small access hole on the front of the armrest portion, behind the tissue holder. Remove your cubby section of the center console (pull straight back on an angle) then pull the ashtray section out (back up and then the front up) Open your armrest, pull the change holder/tissue holder straight up and you should see it going in here:
