ok so about 2 months ago i baught a $120 insignia cd deck, and the harness for the explorer. when i installed it and put the wires into the audio output harness in the car, it wouldnt play. so i cut off the harness ports for the orinial radio and tied the wires together one by one, touching them together to find which ones fit which. i got the two front speakers working the back ones i didnt care about . about 2 weeks ago the front left speaker stopped working. I took out the deck and saw that two of the wires were off. i put them back together but still
no sound on the left front. so instead i hooked up the wires to back left for now but im still trying to figure out how this stupid things work. i wanted to get it installed professionally, but i dont know if they'll be able to do it because i cut off the whole port, though they could probably replace but im not 100 percent on that. any ideas or solutions?

A few questions:

1) When you spliced the wires did you wrap them in electrical tape? One of my friends forgot to do this and ended up shorting out some things...make sure you did that.

2) Is the speaker dead or what? I don't see why if you have it wired to the deck in some way why it wouldn't play, and yet play on another set.

Honestly all a wiring harness is is a device that lets you splice the wires for your car and your head unit together in your house or workshop, instead of your dashboard. The alternative to using a harness is what you are doing: cutting up the wires in the dash and trying to put it together there. I don't see why the harness would work if you correctly paired the wires from the harness to the wires on the new reciever. The only difference in harnesses is the connection for make and model of your car.

I would suggest searching these boards and online for a wiring schematic for your 93 xplorer and find which color wires mean what, and then consult the wiring guide on your reciever's instructions to match them up. After you've done that, taped everything up, checked your fuses in the car (i think their on the driver's side of the dash) to make sure everything is fine for the reciever, and you are still having problems, then I think it'd be easier to determine the problem.

yes i wrapped them in electrical tape and the speaker might be dead because i know theres something wrong with my interior light and it wont go one and i thing the cd deck wiring ssystem runs on the same fuses. so ill check that out sometime this week and see if i blew the fuse i have all the scematics and right now all the right wires are together, but i cant be for sure that the schematics are correct because when i follwed them, some of the wires would just give feedback.
