Hey everyone. I own a 98 EB, and I've had a cd player problem ever since I've purchased the suv in Feb. Please note that this only happens in generally cold-for-south texas weather (<70). It happened a little in Feb and March, but didn't happen all summer until now. When the car is on, the cd player will be playing. The track is displayed, the track time is running, and everything seems to be going ok. There's just one problem: no sound is coming out of the speakers. When I switch to radio (am or fm) everything is perfect. As soon as I switch back to cd player, the cd continues to play, but no sound. It will finally kick in about 5-10 mins of playing a cd. I thought it was the amp, but I think that has been phased out because of the radio sill outputting sound. The stereo is the factory one that came with the car. I am positive this problem is weather releated because it only happens in below 70 temps (happens a lot in the morning now). It seems as if the cd player has to warm up from spinning the cd to finally output sound. This might seem like a weird problem, but it's real, and very annoying. If anyone knows a solution or what it could be, please let me know.

Thanks,
Justin

this could be an condensation build up , when it's cold like that, (and i don;t know if it's very humid where you are) but when you turn your radio on the heat generated by your radio will make condensation on your lens pickup of the cd players, this is something you can't help cause it would take time to get the excess moisture out of the cd-player before it actually picks up the beam and plays the music.

It also might be "Cold Soldered Joint" on one of the printed circuit boards inside the radio.

When the temperature drops, connections on the circuit board that the soldering is not 100 percent surrounding the component lead or has a high level of flux around it can cause an open circuit. This could cause the radio to work fine but cause the CD player to have no audio (if the "CSJ" is on the CD Players Circuit board) until the circuit board's temp warms up to a point where the solder touches the lead again and WHAALAA, you get CD audio.

Haven't seen a lot of this problem, as quality control tries to ensure good soldering practices.. BUT it does still happen.

Hope this helped.
Jim
