Give some thought to a HU that not only plays CDs but also plays MP3s.

Good luck.....

well, when i was shopping around for mine, a big thing i was thinking about was double din or single din. i ended up going with single din (though the double din will fill out the dash better) because for the price of an average double din unit, i ended up getting a helluva nice single din unit with a TON of features. i went with the sony cdx-m620. another thing you might wanna consider is mp3 playing capability - this wasnt a big deal for me because id rather have a changer (besides, i hated all the mp3 capable players out at the time.)

I chose the Kenwood Excelon series when I needed a new unit cause of the display. I had an Alpine and Pioneer before it and my biggest complaint was the display wasn't visable when the sunlight hit it. My Kenwood has a dot matrix display ( i think that is how to describe it) and also the ability to adjust the angle of the face instead of just being flat. I would say that with a little research you should have no problems finding a great HU.

I have an AIWA MP3 HU and like it a lot. Visibility is good, it has changer controls, and plays MP3s. It also has some good eq features. You can get them now for under $200, mine was about 300. The only thing is it doesn't have a large buffer so CDs skip sometimes on very rough roads. It's not bad, for sure better than the stock player/changer.

If you want a simple unit with great sound, I'd recommend Nakamichi CD-45Z. It has 20-bit D/A converter.

how much are you willing to spend? all in all that is what it will boil down to for you get what you pay for. i have a alpine cva-1003 it has nice displays and great pic. quality but no cd player slot you need to buy either a cd changer/dvd player seperate. if you dont want mobile multimedia than this is not for you.

I just got the Eclipse CD5441 installed. See my post "kudos for a great install" Amazing for SQ. 3, 5V preouts. you can pay more and get the CD8051 or 8061 which I think is 8v but Im more than happy with mine. The eclipses had a rep for skipping CD's but these 2001 models are skip free, unless you have crappy CD-R recordings. but so far no skippin on my part even with the crappy cdr. its only been 3 days though. im sure i ll vent on these forums if they start skippin on me.

Im lookin to spend no more that 250 dollars for the head unit. I figure that I dont need something very high end I just wwant it to be quality and be good for the build up. Im starting with the head unit then I am going to move into the door speakers from there then the amps and subs. I dont want thunder bass just clean sound all the way around. Quality ot quanity. Thanks for all the replies guys I have some researching to do.

well if your range goes up to 250, then i'd probably suggest going with a pioneer DEHP4300
it has 200watts power, XM radio ready, CD-changer capabilities, remote ctrl. and a whole mess of other nifty features. but if you're really into playing mp3 encoded CD's then ya.. go with that Aiwa model or better yet if u can afford it, go with the Alpine brand.
