I am interested in getting a cd-reciever for my 91 explorer sport. Has anyone got any useful info, like a brand or model that would be easy and require little modification to install? I am looking to spend around $150 and want the easiest installation available.

One tip for you. On Audio you buy what you pay for. You can get a head unit for $150. But most Explorers have an amp that you will have have the Right Wiring harness for or Bypass the Amp. Next I have a sony head unit I like it alot 2 year warrenty but I paid $275 for this head unit. I first Bought an Ok Pioneer from Wal-mart For $175 and I did not keep it very long just the Quality was not what I was hoping for.

The Moral of this story is the cheaper stuff you buy the more it will cost you... Why? You will have to replace it sooner. In Other words I spent $425 on Head units when I could have bought a better one to start with.

As you can probably tell, had a little extra time to kill at work! There a plenty of GREAT players at this price. As manufactures come out with new models, previous model prices drop like rocks! Usually the previous models have the same basic features such as power, they usually just look fancier! Good luck man...hope this helps! I bought a Panasonic CQ-DF88 from Crutchfield for my Ranger about a year ago for $389, crutchfield sent me the harness and excellent instuctions, the din spacer, din tool all for free with the purchase, then when I got my Explorer I got the harness for it at Wal Mart for around $15.00. The same style player I bought isn't listed any more, but the CQ-DF100 Dead Link Removed is going for about $179.

How do you know if your explorer has the factory installed amp? I'm guessing you only have the amp if you have the optional JBL premium sound system. Am I right?

Joe, I believe all Explorers at least have an amp for the door speakers..I'm positive that at least the XLT's and EB's have 'em. If you have the JBL, there is one amp for the door speakers and one for the JBL sub.

99 times out of 100 your Going to have at least one amp. I have only seen one Explorer ever with out one.

Anyone with questions about thing like if there is a factory amp or where it is at should try calling crutchfield(1 800 955 3000). They know there stuff and even if you get your cd player somewhere else they can still get you all the wiring harnesses you need including the ones to bypass factory amps and they will send detailed instructions on how to replace all the stereo components in your vehicle.
