Hi. i just wanted to say thanks. In July of last year, i checked out your valve body rebuild diary and i did all the Ford updates and installed the VB components of the 5R55E Shift Technologies shift kit. My transmission was shifting great and overdrive was working fine until last week when i got a code for a shift solenoid c circuit stuck off (can't remember the number of the code).

I cleared the code several times and it seemed like fourth gear wasn't working, so i pushed the button on the shift lever to shut off the OD, and then i tried it again on the interstate. Going through the gears, it suddenly jerked pretty hard and then the check engine light came on again, this time with a code P1762. The other code hasn't come back, and now it's overdrive that isn't working.

Last weekend, i drained the fluid and replaced the trans filter again, but that didn't fix anything. I also have tested the OD switch for continuity with the button pushed in, and it's working.

Now, i am wondering if maybe that gasket on the revised separator plate failed again, or if maybe something else is going on. If anyone has any experience with this or suggestions, i would greatly appreciate it. i contacted my local transmission shop (a very good and reputable establishment) and they told me that it's time for a rebuild at 92,000 miles. i am inclined to agree with them, but i would like to entertain other possibilites first, being that it will cost bdetween $1300 and $1700. Thanks.

Welcome to this forum! Shops always push for an entire rebuild. Go back, and retrace your steps. Check the internal wiring harness, and clean the plug. According to another thread, there is a TSB about the spearator plate throwing this code: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140632

Wiring Harness?

Hello again. I was going to ask about that wiring harness too. i added the pressure riser that they included with the kit. It has 2 scotchloks that vampire on the solenoid wires. Would that be a potential problem? I know in my experience as a mechanic that scotchloks are a bad idea because they end up breaking wires and corroding overtime, but i thought that maybe they would be okay in transmission fluid. I can't remember if they came with the kit, or if i added them myself. It's been a while.

welcome aboard

Pressure Riser.

I had to splice into the solenoid wiring for the pressure riser part of the shift kit (See 5R55E valve body rebuild diary). I don't think the author installed it, but i did because it was part of the kit. Who knows, maybe that's my problem. i might try and pull it out of there and replace the wiring harness. It would be a cheaper fix than a rebuild, but the fluid is expensive, and with the exhaust over the pan, it's a total pain to remove the trans pan. I always have to unbolt the front end of my front driveshaft to get it to clear the exhaust and the filter.
