Aloha,

Have 1996 Ford Ranger. CEL on now, is there a way to retrieve codes without going to dealer. I kind of live out here in the middle of no where. There is no such thing as Autozone or Pep Boys here.

Thanks in Advance,
aloha,

Since your Ranger is a '96 it is a OBD II system and there is no cheap way to retrieve codes. The only thing you can do is purchase a scan tool.:(

Since you have no autozone in your area, the only thing I can recommend is cleaning your IAC & MAF and resetting your computer. Hopefully that will clear it up.. Next time spend some money and get a code scanner/reader.. It might cost money but it'll save you $ in the long run.

You can go to harbor freight and pick up an OBD II code reader. It's either 40 or 50 dollars.

You can get a good OBD II reader on ebay for $49. I did. works great. My friends are always coming over to use it.
