Center Console Repair!!

Hi, i'm working on fixing my center console, the paint is peeling. Any one been through this? Any ideas will help!

You'll have to scrape it all off and repaint, or, find a new one. Easier to do the second.
 






its actually like a very thin rubber coating they have on there .mines peeling too .i just deal with it .
 






joe dirt: i've been looking around for a new one but all the ones i've found are about the same as mine, keep in mind the newest gen 2 X is already 10 years old.

So i'm trying to figure out the best way to strip the rubber film off, which is the hard part. I've tried a heat gun (makes it weak but doesn't remove it). Today i'm going to try a light paint thinner (i'm scared to mess up the plastic), i'll let you'll know what works.
 






Might be heat- I see them all the time in the yards up here with no peeling... I can keep an eye out for a mint one if you don't get 'er fixed up...
