Gang,
I don't post much (this may be my first post ever?), but wanted to share something with you. 2007 Eddie Bauer and I had the plugs changed by Ford at 78,000 miles in early 2011. February 2013 (118,000 miles), the truck develops some stumbling and stuttering under load. I replaced the Motorcraft plugs with Champion 7989's and also replaced the coils with new Motorcrafts. I took extra care when installing, to include blasting the engine with compressed air prior to removing the coils, blasting the spark plug wells with compressed air after the coils were removed, applying nickel anti-seize on the electrode shield, applying dielectric grease to the inside of the plug boots and using a quality torque wrench to ensure a max of 25lbs was applied. All was good for about 5000 miles, when one day the truck started over-revving and failing to upshift. The dash lit up like a Christmas tree. It got towed to a dealer who pulled an error code on cylinder 2, misfire. they replaced the Champion plug with a Motorcraft and the problem went away temporarily. things were good for about another 15K miles when it did the same damn thing on me last week. I pulled all of the plugs easily except for #8 , which had rusted into the head due to the lovely cowl water infiltration issue. After soaking in Kroil for 24 hours and using a Matco bolt extractor, I got #8 out without damaging the head. The spark plug hex nut was filthy with rust. I guess the moral of the story is that at least my Exploder does not like Champion plugs, and that coating both the electrode shield and the plug threads with nickel anti seize could save you from headaches later on. She has new motorcraft SP-514 plugs and is running great.
