The OEM motorcraft 9/16" spark plugs used in the 06 to 10 explorer v8s come with preset gaps. The CHAMPION 7989 replacement plugs engineered to fix the motorcraft three piece plug problem have a traditional "J" plug as well as a standard 5/8" socket design and require the gap to be set before installation.

What gap should it be set to for a 06 explorer v8 triton motor? I read through most of the threads on the plug issues and did not see the size gap mentioned.

The Haynes manual I have recommends .040-.050 inch for a 2006 V-8.

I bought these for my 05' Mustang and have been running them for about 2 years now without any issues. I gapped them to 0.045" which seems to work well. They were gapped pretty close right out of the box but I checked every one of them and regapped if I needed to.

Thanks the gaps of .045 seems like a good average. I always check the gap on new plugs. It is common sense to make them all the same.
