Hi,

has anyone changed over from the K@N to tru-rev and noticed the throaty sound and increased motor performance.
:fire:
Was thinking about trying it but didn't want to kill the cow already having the K@N and having noticed some gains when i got rid of my stock setup.

:bounce:

well, personally.. there is no performance differences at all in filters, but that may be just me.

if you're swapping from a "performance" filter.. to a "performance" filter.. you most likley wont see/hear any changes at all.. from a stock or drop in, you will probably have deeper sound, and thats it.

just my .25

K, thanks

are you talking about changing from a KN drop-in to the KKM or from the KN FIPK to the KKM? Switching to a full intake kit from a drop-in will probably help a bit.

they're so similar it won't make any difference. They're basically the same thing with a slightly different filter and a different name.

you should go with the kkm tru-rev. Because with the stock air box and a drop in K&N yes you will get some more horses(around 5). The reason you dont get alot it because there is a huge air box blocking any air from getting in. There is a plastic tub that goes to the front grille to get cold air but it licks. Take a look at it and its the most restrictive air tube. Now with the kkm you dont use a stock air box the filter is out in the open with nothing preventing it from getting air so it suck up air like nothing else. To get even more horses you can also buy a Vortex valve/tornado or a throttle body spacer. This turns the incoming cold air from the kkm like a tornado does so it gets more in faster and results in more power.(More air = power). To finish it off you can order some heat wrap and wrap up the stock air tube to keep the air coming in cold.

Hopes this helps you out, email me at *****enguy7@yahoo.com to tell me your results.

I read this a few times and the only thing that I can come up with is that you mustt be joking, right?

Here is the filter i got(see link), its not a drop-in and I have my stock airbox at the county recyclers. :p

It looks relatively similiar to the KKm as far as mounting. So what what darkfox1 said, its a performance filter to performance filter deal....

Thanks all.;)

the setup you have and the kkm are so similar, you wont notice a difference..... the difference is the filter itself basically... the kkm uses a high quality s&b filter while the other is a k&n.....there will be little or no difference in your truck as they are essentially the same

how does a filter placed way up there get any outside air?

it seems to me that would be getting a lot of hot engine air up there, that could have some effect on your power gains.... not that theres much power to gain from a filter heh

Darkfox1,

my thoughts exactly. Even though it is a better filter, there must be another way to get a better air flow besides the heated air.

I will see if there is any kind of hose that might run in the diameter of the existing hookup. Maybe I could reroute the sensor and filter to the other side of the which is a little more open. Then i will just need to run an extention for the sensor wire.

yea, thats what I'd try, if you could get it down on the other side, and down by the bumper, you could get a nice CAI going there, and probablly see a noticable gain over the stock box

what was the intial question changing from a drop in k&n filter to a kkm true-rev INTAKE, or Changing the From a CONE k&N filter already on the intake to a KKM CONE filter.

:D LOL

Yes the initial questions was going from the Cone K@N to the cone KKM tru-Rev.

Or if there was a better solution out there. As in my last post, I will probably try to re-route the intake to the other side somehow.

What do you have for your intake, any pics online??

:smoke:

KN FIPK, stock MAS, BBK intake kit, BBK TB, BBK Eaton M62 :D

oh ok, then disregaurd evrything i said before because i didnt understand the question until know. I only have a drop in kandn but for know i've drilled some holes where the hot air doesnt get in. But im going too go for a ram air kit like KKM unless there is something else out there.

would a tube like that make any difference over the stock.. rubber.. thing? like a NOTICABLE difference? I'm not talking .0001 off yer 1/4 mile :P

I've been looking for a tube like that for my truck, but can't find any for the 5.0 I was thinking about finding a shop that can bend me one on their own.. its not terriblly complex.

I'd say get your truck fixed first :p

A smooth and larger bore intake tube can help a motor, but not really unless you have fairly major mods. The intake tube is rarely the tightest intake restriction.
