Hello... I am new to doing maintenance on my Explorer Sport 4.0 SOHC and was wondering if someone could tell me if there is an easy way to get the air filter cover up enough to change the air filter on a 1999 Explorer Sport? I am able to unlock the little clips on the side and pull it out from the tabs on the other side, but I can't seem to get it up enough to get the old air filter out and the new one in. The whole top part hits the side of the frame and won't continue moving upward to access the filter. Is there something I am missing? Should I just push in really hard to get it past the frame of the explorer? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Take the clamp off the rubber intake hose and just remove the cover of the air box. You can probably get it out without doing that, but it is easy when you remove the hose. Be sure that you don't pull on the connector for the MAF sensor attached to the lid. Oh and make sure the PCV vent line is connected properly when your finished. Sometimes when you monkey around with the rubber intake tube it can have a tendency to pop out which will cause a vacuum leak.
