Well, I DID smooth out my idle by replacing the IAC module, even though I had cleaned it several times and I was not getting any codes, replacing the darned thing smoothed out the idle...imagine that!

Ok, now I am ready to attack the bad gas mileage as well.

I know I am not getting any codes concearning the EGR valve or the 02 snesors, but this Explorer IS 6 1/2 years old and has 136K miles on these parts...I think I have gotten my money out of them. I have never touched the EGR valve and the 02 sensors were replaced at 80K miles.

Besides, I have replaced the plugs/wires, cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body and replaced the fuel and air filters lately. The EGR and 02 sensors are the next quick and easy replacement parts...right?

How hard is it to replace the EGR valve on the ol pushrod 4.0? Is it just held on by those two bolts...then remove the green vacuum line? Anything I should beware of before I start?

Also, after looking around underneath the Ex, while changing the oil last weekend, I noticed two 02 sensors on the exhaust manifolds...is it best to replace both at the same time? I will probably do this anyway. I think the first time I only replaced one...maybe thats my problem...I've got an orignial 1995 02 sensor in one place (?!?!?).

I really think that as these mostly plastic, cheapo parts age under that hood in the heat...burning that re-formulated gas, the better off I am just yanking the old pieces out and starting fresh after so many miles and years. Hey...it worked for the IAC motor!

Any help on the EGR valve replacement would be helpful.

Thanks,

EGR is easy but I recommend not doing it when it is freezing out. I was forced to and I ended up snapping a couple vacuum lines in the process.

Changing the O2 sensors was probably the easiest thing on the truck I've done.
The 'clip' for the drivers side is real easy. The clip for the pass side, can be gotten to the same as the back spark plug. Turn your wheels full to right, take off inner fender shield and on the back of the block there it is in plain sight. Just a little hard to reach, unless you take the wheel off and give some more room.
2 O2 senors changed out in 34 minutes.!!

When you say EGR, you mean the DPFE sensor/valve. I had a CEL and that was the culprit. Aggravating because the dealship was the only place that had it. Write down the EXACT part number from the one you have especially the last 2 'lettere'. the one on the 95 Ranger looks exactly like the EX, but the clip for the sensor is different.
Easy to do..agree w/D though..wait till it is a little warmer. I had to cut the vacuum lines off and spray a little silicon on the tubes to get the new ones fitted right.

Oh, yeah, when you are done reset the PCM, by disconnecting the battery (both), turn on your lights, touch both cables together, reconnect.
