Changing lower ball joints on a 97' AWD Mountaineer?

I need to replace the lower from ball joints on my Mountaineer. Can someone give me a quick summary of how to go about this and what special tools I will need.

Will I need to remove the lower A-arms?? Do the balljoints press out?

Any help would be great.

nope - they stay on the vehicle.

yeah if you have a ball-joint press.
