Good luck man. I know when I changed my plugs the second time I took the passenger side front tire off and bought a bunch of extensions and it was EASY!!! At one time I had two swivels and 4 extensions on to get the back plug on the passenger side. I don't know if the 1st gens are the same but I've done it twice on the 2nd gen with way more luck taking the passenger side tire off the second time. It just gives you so much more room to work in there.

GOOD LUCK TOMORROW!!!

Tastey... I was getting in there to do mine and after some time, effort and blood, said "#&% this!" and let the local garage enjoy it.
Time is short, skin takes time to grow and sometimes its worth a few $ to have something done. heh

After changing them on my first explorer I didn't want to do it on this one at all. But I was in International Falls  and none of the shops would do it. So I figured I'd try before going to the dealer. And it was actually quite easy w/the wheel off :D

Of course, blood was shed! But a few beers definitely stopped the bleeding... or did it?

It's not that bad when you learn the best ways to get to them. My first time changing them took me forever.

I got pissed too and i went to my local ford dealership to have it done and they told me it would cost 81.00 to have it done and i provided the plugs. I was like #$%^ you.

Well, i took it there to day and they are doing a few other things to it as well. changing the egr and egr tube. I broke the tube trying to change the egr. plugs, wires, clean MAF, clean injectors, Idle controler, TPS. not going to be cheap. This sucks, but, i did get a good deal on the truck when i bought it, around here anyway.

i changed the back one on the passanger side by pulling back the wheel well shielding. It wasnt as bad as it could be... if anyone has changed plugs on an areostar van they know what i'm talking about. Also a full set of extentions and swivels help.

i agree spend the $25 or $30 and have a local shop do the passenger side, thats what i plan on doing, ..

The local shops wouldn't even do it for me! But it pushed me to do it myself and it was really easy with swivels and extensions. Those are the key!

When you go through the wheel wells its not that bad. Get yourself a pair of Mechanix Wear gloves and some socket extensions and a u-joint.

Be careful with the u-joint, its much easier to break/strip a plug or the head with it.
