Hello all... It has been a while. I have a few questions and any help would be appreciated. My 1999's (XLT 4.0) dash had begun to look like a Christmas tree!!!! I am flashing the 4Wd lights all the time and the ABS is a constant. I had read the codes when it was only the ABS and found out it was the rear sensor on the diff which does not look like too much of an issue; however, the other lights are due to bad speed sensors on the transfer case. Has anyone swapped these out??? and if so how hard was it? Do the lines have to be spiced in?

Also a good source for these sensors would be appreciated.

Transfer case speed pick-up

I had the 4wd drive light flashing problem last year and it ended up being the speed pick-ups on the transfer case.

Fairly easy job to replace them, you will have to remove each wires from the connectors and re-install them in the proper position using a small pic.

I also took the opportunity to change the transfer case fluid by the same time (not required to drain fluid in order to replace the speed pick-up but I changed the oil for synthetic). :D

A handheld scanner will not catch the speed pick-up problems since they only programed for the basic OBDII codes. You will need a software type OBDII scanner to find out them or pay a visit to the dealer for a scan and let them advising you of the codes. ;)
