2002 Ranger 2.3 Duratech
2002 2.3 5spd ranger with occasional loss of alternator ouput. New battery, alternator, wires checked. 13.8 to 14.4 volts most of the time but total loss of alternator output on occasion usually with quick recovery of normal voltage. When voltage recovery does not occur, disconect of battery and ecm for 30 minutes results in return of normal voltage (however occasional dropouts of voltage still occur). Truck starts and runs well at all times. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

On the back of the alternator are two plugs, one with 2or3 wires and one smaller with ONE wire. The one wire connector is the stator power. Without power to it, no output from alternator. Unplug it and clean the terminal in the alternator with a dental scraper or very small screwdriver. Pack the wire connector with silicon grease and push in and pull out about a dozen times to clean the connector. This may help, I fought erratic charging for a year before doing this. One day fine, the next day dead battery.
