charging voltage

That's a great price. Who makes them on here, I'd rather give them a shot as well.

I was under the assumption "mechman" was a person who was part of the forum....

BNRParts is their eBay name, CAE alternator and starter (Van Nuys, CA) is the company. There is a bad review from a guy with a 70 Boss Mustang, of which I can understand his unhappiness. I went through them for my 74 Duster alternator (increased output at lower rpm for a 612hp stroker smallblock) as well as my 2004 Subaru Forester XT (higher output all across rpm band for more efficient power to coils/plugs especially under 21psi boost) never had an issue. They did send me an alternator with the wrong voltage regulator for my Explorer (upon further research it was for a Crown Vic which apparently has different voltage requirements) but they did make it right very quickly. All in all, I have no complaints. YMMV, but they have done ok by me.

If I threw a rock at RockAuto everytime they screwed up one of my orders, my shoulder would need repair. Just sayin.

I would avoid those HO ebay alts at all cost... come over to the SMD forum and look through all the horror story's...

http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/index.php?

if that alt was even close to putting out 200amp it would be for 30 seconds before it gets hot and at 6,000rpms

DC power, mechman, singer, iraggi just to name a few rate their alts at hot charge and at a decent low rpm while testing..... anyone that simply takes a burnt up alt and rewinds it calls it a HO and slams a crazy low price on it is just selling instant car fire on your expense

The "check charging system" light disagreed with you. As far as my own experience, anything over 13.4 was excessive. But, I'm not an electrical engineer, and my experience is purely school of hard knocks. I am a petroleum specialist, so that I can speak to.

My diagnosis was based on the OP's symptoms and not yours. If your voltage dips below 13.5 you charging system needs to be checked.

I didn't even catch the eBay part. Must've barely read it when he responded but yeah, that will be the first eBay alternator I've seen last if it does for USMC. Never heard a good story about them unfortunately. Even some of the big brands have had some serious issues.

alts are pretty high wear items but Ive read many posts about the various brands and they fix the problems as long as you did not totally abuse the thing to death.... but in reality any alt takes a beating charging 300+ ah worth of batts and throwing out a constant 200+ amps of current to a 2500+ rms system
