Anyone tried these and had any lucky? Amazon is selling some for crazy cheap. You can buy a pair for about what it costs to buy one from rock auto, which is already about half the cost of one at the local parts store.

Any info what you guys have been using would be very appreciated.

Thanks,
Beech.

I Fitted a full CNS chain, tensioner and guide kit in January 2013.
It's still going good, I hope it keeps going.

Mine doesn't rattle very loud but it is noticeable at idle and isn't necessarily any worse at start up. Sounds like it's coming from the passenger side of the motor.

Does that sound like a bad tensioner or something more serious? Should I pull the oil pan and check for bits of guide?

Roger that. With the car only having 84k the clock I was hoping this is a problem I wouldn't encounter for a while...

What's the usual mileage people start to experience failures?

It doesn't sound like the usual timing chain problem but it would be a good idea to check the oil pan.

There doesn't seem to be a "usual mileage" for this.

Thanks for the info. It's a bit hard to hear where the sound is coming from currently because the exhaust has failed quite badly between the cat and muffler. Most of the sound you hear around the car is that.

However if you're at idle with the pass anger window down and you're across from a wall or another car you can definitely hear a rattle from that side of the motor. It's not any worse or better at startup at this point.

The usual timing chain problem is the tensioners, they allow the chain to thrash around at first start up until the oil pressure builds up.
When the chain is thrashing around it breaks up the plastic guide which was probably brittle anyway.

That's not what yours sounds like.

It's pretty easy to get the pan off with the engine in place even for a 4wd.
Pictures if you need them. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=254729
