I would never buy one of those. One, the cost throws me into thinking it's a scam. Two, when you look at the picture it looks like a jumper wire on a connector and that's it. And three, like other chips it tells you you'll gain HP, TQ, MPG, etc --- but this just says HP. I'd like to talk to their customers and see what they got out of it. It's only like $13 dollars, try it out and see what happens.

These eBay wonder chips are usually just a wire and a resistor. I would avoid like the plague.

There is no doubt that Detroit is not the final word on automotive design, and often is a little behind on things which can upgrade performance... but think a minute...Automakers have been under the gun to improve fuel efficiency ACROSS THE BOARD by the government for some time. This will not translate into MORE POWER! (I can hear Tim Allen saying that as I type it)... I admit, and hence opens up ways to improve the performance at the expense of fuel economy...but also know that their SAE engineers are looking for ways to squeeze as much as they can out of what they got. They are pretty sharp cookies.

So when you see a BINSFORD model "Zippy Doo" that promises the moon.....stop and think. Are the engineers in Detroit all THAT dumb? (or is the American public all THAT gullible?)

[Note: conspiracy theorists can stop here. I do not believe Detroit and the oil companies are in bed together. AND!!.. I was no where near the grassy knoll in Dallas in November 1963]

It's a 3.7k ohm resistor you put in place of the air temp sensor. Makes it think it's 57 degs outside at all times. It'll add a degree or 2 of timing when it's hot out and the extra fuel to burn it.

Maybe 5 hp and the loss of some mileage. Depending on ambient temps, of course.

I get mine at Radio Shack for a quarter.

newb.

at $2.50 a gallon I'll take the fuel efficiency at the pump. But thanks, it rather LOOKED like a 1/2 or 1/4 watt resistor!

There is also something that I see advertised occasionally. Its 2 magnets that straps around one of the fuel lines. They charge a lot of money for it, and tell you that somehow the gas vapors are getting attracted to the magnetic field, and polarizing the molecules to burn more efficiently. I don't see how.

WHAT, you mean when you spill gasoline you don't use a magnet to clean it all up effortlessly? Any idiot knows gasoline is magnetically predisposed for maximum fuel efficiency, except SAE engineers, of course.

And, don't forget that the Bo Jangles Independent testing Lab has independently verified the acurracy of their claims!

There is also something called the Tornado that goes into the intake hose that causes the air to swirl around as it goes into the intake manifold. It's a small spiral piece of sheet metal inside of a tube that they charge about $60 or $70. The design actually has some basis behind it. There is a very similar spiral strip of metal inside of every gas powered hot water tank that goes into the chimney. It helps divert the exhaust upward, and controls the air flow so that there is no excess draft coming out of the chimney that could blow out the pilot light. As for the automotive use of it, I don't know how it will increase air flow going into the manifold. Maybe they assume that it will act like a heat sink, and cool down the air going into the manifold to increase performance. A turbo intercooler/heat exchanger would be more efficient in this application.

WOW ! <laughing> in other words... NADA, ZERO, ZIP !

Do we really have a thread about an eBay mod chip? :p

True, but, it didn't lose power like some claim ....

Well now THERE is an endorsement. <giggling> NEW, IMPROVED, guaranteed not to lose power! As seen on TV. Operators are standing by (picking their noses). Hurry limited quantity.

I joined 2 months before you so bite me

Thanks for explaining it guys, as I said im not interested in it just curious. The main thing I was curious about is how they can guarentee that much horsepower and not deliver, can they not get sued for that?

If it was 100 degs out, dry air (think Arizona), it was a 500 hp Viper with no mods, you MIGHT see 20hp.

Other than that, 0-5hp.

or in Al's case. 0. Worth every penny (25 pennies, to be exact.)

There are some applications that I use them. Mainly bracket racing. For consistency. The mfgs. allow air temp to have a direct influence on timing. Although it's only 2-3 degrees of timing, when bracket racing, it's too much. It can throw you off by 5-6 hundreths. And it'll bite you in the ass when you least expect it.

But again, I pay a quarter for mine.
