2017 Explorer XLT 3.5
Gday all. I have a 2017 Explorer XLT trim with the NON 3.5. I had the alternator crap out on me a while back and had a buddy mechanic of mine replace it for me. He did that and the battery. But since i got it back i have an intermittent dinging and the "Check charging system" light go on. Then it will go off. He said i have a wire somewhere that is probably broken or loose, but it is charging and is keeping it's charge. Also, i notice the interior lights will dim slightly at a consistent interval, like 3 times in 6 seconds, then stop for 15 seconds, and do it again.

Suggestions on where to start? I know the bugger looks hard as heck to get to, thinking of going through the passenger wheel well i seen on a video?

Welcome to the Forum.
When your "buddy" changed out the alternator did he use an OEM replacement? If not, that could be one of your issues. Also, when he put in the new battery, did he reset the Battery Management System (BMS)? It should be reset to erase the memory of the previous battery. It is also recommended to let the vehicle sit undisturbed for 8 hours after a battery replacement to let the BMS learn the state of charge.
Have you checked to see if there are any trouble codes (DTC) set?

Peter
