ok so far my check engine light has come on twice since i pick it up saturday. first time after 15 miles when i picked it up it came on for 5 secs. second time tonite after 2.7 miles when i filled my tank up for 10 secs. is the computer just relearning? im going to take it into the guy that rebuilt it sometime this week and ask him, but would like to get input from other X owners if this has happen to them before.

check gas cap make sure it is tight. most likely not a problem unless it stays on

Why not run the codes?

You can run them yourself and all you need is a voltmeter.

i dont have a voltmeter and where would i run the voltmeter from? oh and the check engine light came on again today at 18.3 miles into my new tank of gas for 15 secs. how come it is 5 sec longer every time or is this just a fluke? thxs

check the o2s

When I rebuilt my engine I replaced the O2 sensor when I started it for the first time- well I actually put an old O2 sensor in place for the first 1000 miles. I then replaced the sensor with my new one. A mechanic friend of mine suggested I remove the o2 on start up,the idea that oil, gas getting by the unseated rings might cause problems. Its just a theory I guess, but it made sense so I did it and have had no problems.

So I would suggest checking codes see if the O2 shows up.

good luck.

www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html describes the procedure for pulling up the engine codes. If you don't want to get a voltmeter (the one I use for pulling up my check engine codes costs about $5), I'm pretty sure you can use the check engine light itself. Just put the jumper wire in as described in the test procedure and the continuous memory codes will come up as flashes of the CEL light.
