Hi everyone just bought a 1997 explorer for daily use. Within 2 blocks
of driving away from the purchase point the check engine indicator
came on. (not the best way to start a relationship) Did get it for a good price and will stick with it. Taking care of paperwork now but I want to be prepared with ODB11 codes info to use when I retrieve the trouble code. Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

Do you have a code reader? If so, refer to the book and find out if: there is only one code being generated, or more than one. Second, if always the same one, decide whether you feel it represents a serious enough fault (like cyl. misfire) which could be a threat to the engine, or more simply an emissions-related fault you can choose to ignore. Good thing Earth Day was yesterday, eh?

If you live where registration requires emissions compliance, they will not pass a vehicle showing a MIL light "on". imp

Google the code. I do it for my Explorer and I get results everytime. I've also been able to correct the problem without purchasing a variety of parts hoping they fix the problem. You need a code reader though. Good investment if you plan on taking care of business yourself.
