Check engine light- 2000 Ford Ranger

Hi everyone, I am trying to get throguh inspections but I have the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT staying lit.

I put some of the octane cleaner in the gas, it went out temporarily but came back on.

Can I use a digital volt meter to find any codes and would you know where the volt meter would connect to on a Rnager 2000 4 cyclinder (with 8 spark plugs)?

..If you had your location under your name, other members in your area would possibly be able to better assist you..

..You can not test with a volt meter but a good ODBII code scanner would be able to read your codes..
