Well, after installing the chip like a day afterwards my check engine light comes on. I disconnected the battery and reconnected it which made it go off for a day, but then it has come back on again. Anyone have any ideas on why this is happening? Where can i take it to get it diagnosed for whats going wrong? Do I have to take it to the dealer or can you take it to somewhere like autozone? Please help!

What triggered the CEL? What was the trouble code?

Well it started about a day after I put the Apten Chip in. I was also asking how to get the trouble code because I don't know it yet....

He obviously doesn't know what the code is or what triggered it.

Yes, try your local AutoZone. They should be able to retrieve the code for free.

Cool, I will go try that. I will be back with results.

You need to either scan it your self or have it scanned with an OBD UU scanner and get the code.

Wuthout the code diagnosing the problem is a crap shoot,

Good luck.....

Well I found out what it could be. The guy at autozone plugged it in and said it could be two things. Either the gas cap wasn't on all of the way or there is a leak in the ac / no freon left. Since my blend door is all messed up cuz its a 97 explorer, all I have is max ac but that went warm so i bet my freon is just about gone if not already there. I am glad it isn't anything like an O2 sensor or somehting like that. Guess it was just a coincidence that it started happening after I put my chip in.

Lets just say I am glad it doesn't have anything to do with the engine, cuz i forgot that ac stuff is expensive

Did he tell you what the code was? I don't think an AC leak would even throw a code.

He didn't tell me a code, but I looked at his diagnostic reader and it said somehting about vent control malfunction or something like that. I know it had "vent" and "malfunction" in it.

Alright you guys. Went back down and got the actual code number to hopefully pinpoint this problem.

Trouble Code

P 0446

Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction

What exactly does that mean?

Here is a good thread on it. Odds are, you didn't tighten the gas cap enough. ;)

Thanks. I put some grease on that o-ring, hopefully that will stop it. The problem is I have to wait a day of driving to see if it has worked. Wouldn't the light come on right away if the cap was screwed up cuz this thing took a day to do it after disconnecting battery, which reset it. Plus, I couldn't have put the gas cap on wrong. The person working at the station did. We don't pump our own gas in Oregon. :D
