check engine light came on

Hello All,

My wife was driving home from work tonight when her 98 4.o explorer started loosing power and the check engine light came on. She pulled to the shoulder, put it in park and turned it off, she then restarted it (cranked right up ) and the check engine light was off. I drove it for a half hour or so and could not duplicate the problem. Any idea's ? It just passed the emmision's test so the gas cap should be good and i did check it to make sure it was secure. Thanks in advance

Believe it or not it could still be the gas cap. If you can get your fuel system pressure checked it would show if there was a problem with the cap.

I have an '01 Sport and my light came on at 20k. It stayed on for 4 days and I even filled up the tank. Of course it turned off on the way to the dealership for service. They performed the pressure check and found a leak in the gas cap. I did not have any loss in power though!

Have you had your fuel filter replaced?
