Ok, so a few months ago I was making a u-turn and accidentally went off the pavement, only I didn’t see it was a 2 foot drop, bang landed on the body. Put it in reverse and backed it back onto the road, got it home to find the brunt of the damage fell onto the exhaust. The exhaust leak was so bad you could hear it with the stereo on, plus the check engine light came on throwing codes having to do with o2 sensor faults, front and back on both sides. I come to find there was a HUGE dent on one of the cats, plus the manifolds to cat flanges were messed up on the passenger side. A few days ago I dropped the whole exhaust, welded the flanges back up, put it all back together, and sealed all connections with exhaust filler after it was all hung. Cleared the codes, went for a drive, no leak noise, light stayed off. Ok it’s been 2 days since I did all this work, and the light is back on. Checked the code and it’s still the o2 sensors, front back both sides. I went for a drive with all windows down, can’t hear a leak. Got under the truck on a cold start, and sprayed soapy water at all the joints, they don’t seem to be leaking.

What can I do to fix the check engine light, how can I get it to stop throwing these o2 sensor codes? Could the dent in my cat have broken the internals of it, and perhaps that’s the reason it’s doing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I’m trying to sell this truck and want to fix it right for the owner. I went to a local shop and told them I’d needed it fixed ASAP as some was coming to look at it, and they suggested, “Put tape over the light.” NICE!

TIA

the dented cat could very well be the problem and the sensors themselves could have been damaged and need replaced....do you have the specific codes?

No I don't, but I was planning on using a spark plug fouler for the sensors after the cats tomorrow.
