Here's one no one can figure out. Any ideas? My 94 xlt with 135,000 has had the "check engine" light come on intermittently, mostly on but occasionally goes off for about the last 50,000 miles. I had it to Ford dealers twice and two other qualified mechanic twice and no one has been able to find the problem. Two of the mechanics have told me they have run the checks completely checking all the variables to no avail. The last guy told me the only thing left to check is replacing the computer chip. Unfortunately the car was purchased in California and I now live in Pennsylvania where a California chip is hard to come by.

The car runs well except that it has a bog down when you barely press on the accelator. After a second it runs fine. Also, the car does not have much punch when it is floored when going up a long hill.

Occasionally the "check engine" light does go out, mostly when I am coasting or cruising with Little or no throttle pressure, only to reappear as soon as I depress the accelerator?

Any ideas?
