I have a '94 Explorer Sport, and a problem. Every time I drive for more than an hour my check engine light comes on and it runs llike crap, severe power loss, rough Idle, etc. I have replaced the plugs, installed sport induction kit and cleaned the MAF. I also had the fuel filter replaced, and did an emission system cleaning. I have had it in the shop after the engine light went off and nothing comes up. I heard it might be my EGR valve, is that worth checking out? How do you check it?

Sounds like the FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator). I had the same symptoms in mine, changed it and the O2 and all is well now.

Do a search on FPR or Fuel Pressure Regulator and you'll find all you need to know.

i had the same problem, i had severe horse power loss when accelerating on the highway, or the truck would hesitate when cruising, came to be the EGR.

my light keeps coming on also
I paid $50 for my dumb*ss mechanic to tell me it was a hose by the egr or something. I had no power loss. Now he said 4 codes came up cause it still lights up. I had to drive about an hour last weekend and realized one thing a standard piece of electric tape fits perfectly where that light comes on LOL. Should I believe this dude when he says one part may need to be replaced and then another may still make this thing light up?

My mechanic lets me scan my truck for nada :-) i found after the EGR was malfunctioning, an oxygen sensor followed. If your light keeps going on and off, it may be a o2 sensor. O2 sensors are only engaged when the engine reaches a certain temperature. I have yet to get my 02 sensor changed, its prolly gonna be done this week, Since last scanning it about a week ago, the light came on, and just went off this morning...go figure.

I was having a problem with mine similar to that...hesitation, check engine came on after about an hour or so on the road...Replaced the O2...nothin...Bought a code reader...Showed up #11...The one that means theres nothing wrong...Bought new plug WIRES...voila! No more light, truck runs like new.
