Need some help my x has its check engine light on and it does not go off. The fault code I am getting is 1450. Not sure what exactly that means. I have the HAYES Ford Explorer manual and it does not refer tp this code. The closest it has is:

P0452 EVAP fuel tank pressure sensor low input
P0453 EVAP fuel tank pressure sensor high input

Where I had the check engine light read said that the code has to deal with air getting into the fuel tank. Not sure if that sounds right, has anyone out there had the same fault code if so what did you do? I know that there are a couple of sensors (fuel pressure regulator) or valves (Fuel Vapor Management Valve - VMV), cleaning the charcoal canister was even recommended. Before I go crazy testing and changing everything any advise?

Thanks

Symptoms?

Does she behave badly. Meaning does she idle rough or how is she when you step on the gas etc. Things like that would also help. Try doing a search on "Check engine light". I did read a thread a while ago, some one was having a hard time starting and the check engine light would go on. They checked a bunch of things and come to find out the gas cap wasn't air tight so it was having a hard time pressurizing the system. Hope this helps?

my check engine light came on when i had a bad catatalytic converter at 75k. i think those are under warranty until 80k by ford. try doing a search though, this topic has been brought up hundreds of times

Your gas cap may not be on right, or may be going bad. Try replacing it, reset the computer and see if the CEL returns.

You have to reset the CEL in order for it to turn off , un-plug the batt. for a few minutes . It could be a real simple prob. like pumping gas w/ the engine runnin' fuel cap not on tight . The CEL usually turns on for those things and when a mis-fire is detected . Could be plugs and wires . Really dirty air filter , causing it to run to rich . Bad O2 sensors , hope this helps . Goodluck.....

i just recently made a road trip to knoxville today (400 miles) and my check engine light came on and went off randomly about 200 miles into the trip... and whenever i turned the explorer off (95) the engine light would go off as well... any ideas on this?

Thanks for all the reply's. I'll say what I have already done.

I changed the gas cap, have done a full tune up (plugs/wires/coil pack/air & gas filters/pcv), changed both O2 sensors, MAF sensor, TPS, I was thinking about the cat being bad. Had one of those fuel & throttle body services, they said it would clean out the cat (not sure how true that is). Honestly the truck runs fine but it is annoying seeing the light on and no real problem.

Well I unplugged the battery to reset it, now the light is off, hopefully it dies not come back. But I will have to wait a bit because when you reset it this way don't you have to drive the vehicle for a few times before the computer relearns everything, including the fault codes.

If it is the cat should I just go to ford and fight for a new one, has anyone ever had them change it with the vehicle being older and higher in mileage. I have a 96 Explorer Sport with just over 60,000 miles.

Thanks again guys.
