Check gas cap light ..... then P0457 appears 4 days later ?

I have a 2001 XLT, V-6 4.0 SOHC with 149,000 miles.

My Check Gas Cap light came on, and then 4 days later, the check engine light came on, so I had toe code read: P0457 (seems like this points to gas cap).


I'm curious why the 2 'check' lights did not come on at the same time.

Could the P0457 indicate some other type of issue ?

After repairing the breakage at the top of the filler neck with JB weld, the problem continued.

So I finally caved and did what I should have done from the beginning - I put on a new fuel cap -a Stant for about $12. The problem has not returned over a month.

Once again reminding me: try the easy/cheap fix first.
