Last weekend one of the rubber hoses that goes to my aux tranny filter sprung a leak somehow and leaked fluid. I didn't notice anything abnormal with the tranny when it was happening, I didn't even notice it until I parked it and I noticed the puddle on the ground. I have no idea really how much fluid I lost. What I did was I put a quart of fluid in, let the motor idle for 10 min, then I checked it with the dipstick. Problem is, I can never get a reading from that, even after driving it for 10 min. I see no definitive line on the dipstick like when checking the oil. I was wondering if anyone has any other methods of checking the fluid because right now I have no idea if it's low or not.

If it is not reading then it is low.
You check tranny fluid warm and ideling.

only other thing i could suggest is drain it compleatly and refil to the proper amount (not sure what that is)

I believe that the tranny/cooler/hoses hold around 12 or 13 quarts. Thats how much it took me to do a complete fluid flush.

Was the stick wet with fluid, and just unreadable? Did you run it through all the gears? I've never had problems before. All the times I checked the v6 trans it was black, and easy to read. The v8's come with a white tip at the end of the stick. Very nice, it is way easier to read if you have clean fluid. Maybe paint the tip of the dipstick white, read it, then paint thinner it off? :) Naw, better not.

It seems wet with fluid but no definitive line.
