I just inherited a 95 Explorer with 235k.Seems to be in pretty good shape,a/c cold, 4x4 engages etc. However, the child locks had been engaged for YEARS and neither back door will open from the inside.Sprayed the child proof mecanisms with wd40 and got them to move up and down but it didnt seem to help.Still wont open. There is no problem opening them from the outside. Thanks

most likely its not a problem regarding the child locks, check if the inside handles are a bit crooked, or even better, take it off and look at the back part, the little lever has some sort of sprockets or gears conected to the other lever that moves the mechanism, and sometimes the little teeth on the plastic moving thing in the lever would break and leave you in that situation.

As i said, just take the handle out, and action it in your hand, and if the back part isn´t moving or it moves like in little jumps instead of swinging smoothly, you need to replace the inner handle. BUT.......... before that, clean, lubricate and grease every part of the inner mechanism, cause if not, the new one won´t last.

Also you need to check the metal rod that is conneced to the handle, as it aso tends to get a bit bent, so if it is, straighten it a bit before installing the handles, and problem solved.

Hope this helps, there are many threads and post about this, just do a quick search.

I agree with coppe. Definitely the inside door handles are cracked/broken. Common problem and easy fix.
